Whoever said lightning doesn't strike twice at the same place? This is what happened to the Salem Lutheran Church in rural Saint Francis on Monday June 8, 2026. Sometime late afternoon, some say 4pm others say 5pm, lightning struck the church and the steeple was structurally damaged, but the church was still intact. Later that night, another storm rolled through and lightning struck it again - this caused a fire and quickly engulfed the building, which burnt to the ground. They just recently celebrated their 100th anniversary. My heart goes out to this parish and the community.

June 6, 2026, marks the 82nd anniversary of D-Day, the historic Allied invasion of Normandy, France, during World War II. On this day in 1944, nearly 160,000 Allied troops executed the largest air, land, and sea invasion in history to liberate Western Europe from N**i occupation. Remembering D-Day means honoring the immense courage, strategic mastery, and profound human sacrifices that fundamentally shifted the trajectory of global history.

The Scale and Turning Point of 1944
Massive Forces: The assault involved thousands of ships, aircraft, and troops from the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and other Allied nations.
The Five Beaches:
Forces stormed heavily fortified German positions across code-named sectors: Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno, and Sword.
Severe Casualties:
Allied forces suffered more than 10,000 casualties on the first day alone, with 4,414 confirmed dead.Path to Victory: While D-Day did not instantly end the war, it successfully opened the Western Front and spelled the beginning of the end for N**i Germany.

Today we remember their courage and heroism and the price they paid for freedom.
