Closing Reception of Seeker by Amie Potsic Saturday March 23rd 2-5pm.
An Extraordinary Photographic Odyssey in the Holy Lands is a new monograph by Amie Potsic featuring photographs of stunning visual delight created on the artist's year-long solo photographic odyssey in India and Israel at the age of 23 in 1995. Defying the stereotype of the heroic male photographer, Potsic traversed the Negev Desert and scaled the Himalayas with her Hasselbald camera and over 100 rolls of film. Through a female gaze, she documented visual splendor, human dignity, and the role of women in their communities. Her lens revealed a multifaceted experience of the depth of ritual and resilience of tradition in the eastern and western Holylands.

Amie Potsic - Seeker
Jan 27th thru March 31st
The SPACE Art Gallery welcomes Photographer Amie Potsic. Seeker is a solo exhibition highlighting the contemporary artist’s feminist photography created while backpacking alone for one year in India and Israel at the age of 23.
Defying the stereotype of the heroic male photographer, Potsic traversed the Negev Desert and scaled the Himalayas with her Hasselbald camera and 100 rolls of film. Through a female gaze, she documented visual splendor, human dignity, and the role of women in their communities. Her lens revealed a multifaceted experience of the depth of ritual and resilience of tradition in the eastern and western Holylands. This exhibition presents the artist’s original photographs as well as mixed media works, memoir, and a monograph created through decades of reflection upon female empowerment, gender politics, and religious patriarchy.
(re)FOCUS festival: Amie Potsic's Seeker is a fearless, feminist exploration of hope.
Opening Reception Saturday, February 3, 2024, 2:00 – 5:00 pm

Artist Talk and Reception TODAY Friday November 17th 5-8pm. Artist Talk 6.30pm
Oculus is a solo exhibition of photographs made from with-inside ancient, living redwoods and sequoias in the American west. These giant trees are hollowed-out from millennia of lightning strikes and fires, and they form apertures to the sky and the canopy above. Though hollow, these trees remain very much alive and their charcoal dark interiors reveal strange shapes that suggest a passage from one recognizable world to another that is like a waking dream.
For Rome, every process in picture-making is a vehicle for considering meaning. The choice of black and white materials simplifies chaotic imagery into a form where a new visual order appears.
Rome places himself within the trees and uses the openings at the top as apertures, framing the sky. For him, these works are not meant to be photographic descriptions or documentation, but rather a catalyst designed to transport the viewer from a recognizable world into something original and unexpected.
