Hm…I wonder what will go in this new display case on the third floor. If only there was a hint somewhere…
The Insectarium and Butterfly Pavilion is the home to rare and exotic arthropods from all over the wo Welcome to the Insectarium!

Philadelphia's only all-bug museum, and the largest insect museum in the nation! We have thousands of live and mounted insects, tons of interactive displays, a movie-room, fun stuff for kids, and a whole lot more! Since 1992 the Insectarium has been educating adults and children alike, right here in Northeast Philadelphia, about the fascinating world of arthropods. Hundreds of thousands of kids ha
ve toured our three floors of museum space, seen countless creepy-crawlies, played in our man-made spider web, and had a great time while learning all about insects in a way that is fun and exciting to their active minds.
Hm…I wonder what will go in this new display case on the third floor. If only there was a hint somewhere…
Fredrick the frolicking ferret frequently found fireflys frantically fiddling in his backyard. He'd be frolicking with a friend or two in his living room when all of a sudden they would hear the unmistakable sound of a fiddle nearby. More often then not, by the time Fredrick got over to open his backdoor and see what was happening, several more fiddling fireflies would have joined in. Within minutes, dozens of them would gather and begin dancing to a rambunctious rendition of Eck Robertson's "Sally Gooden" in his backyard if he didn't lickety-split go out and shoo them away. Fredrick was careful not to mention this when he and Roger the real-estate agent walked potential buyers around his property.
Molly the meandering mole moped through her morning meetings most Mondays. But not this Monday. No, this Monday Molly packed her favorite snacks to share with her friends at lunch. This Monday Molly played her favorite Smashing Pumpkins album on her commute and made eye contact with the cute crossing guard. This Monday Molly took the time to chat with the new receptionist and learned that they both enjoy playing mahjong. Molly didn’t feel alone. And Molly had a good day.
Susan the suspiciously savvy stingray squandered several seemingly lucrative business opportunities. This was very out of character for her and all her friends remarked on it. Samantha the super smart squid supposed that Susan was going through a mid-life crisis. Spencer the strangly superior starfish suggested, and then insisted, that Susan should seek a medical evaluation when her speech also became slurred. The doctors quickly determined that Susan had had a series of small strokes and were able to immediately provide the proper treatment. Susan made a full recovery.

Wagner the wonderful wallaby hopped westward one bright Wednesday morning and wondered where Winifred (her favorite willow tree) could be hiding. She looked both hither and thither for her beloved arborous friend but Winifred was nowhere to be found. As Wagner continued her search, she began to pick up the faintest smell of smoke. With a furrowed and fuzzy brow, Wagner peered over the top of a small hill and let out a little gasp as she saw the bright orange and red of fresh flames below. Winifred was enjoying a cozy fireside lunch with Wendy the white-tailed deer. They must have just forgotten to invite her, Wagner thought. As Wagner made her way down to join her friends, Winifred and Wendey exchanged glances and quietly cut their conversation short.

Amazing news from IBP our bee colony has split! This is a sign of a really healthy colony and we are excited about the future for our new queen bee that has been crowned to lead the new colony! Queen bees are made by being fed a special food called “royal jelly” by the worker bees when they a young larvae. Royal Jelly is richer than the food given to worker larvae, and is necessary for the larvae to develop into a fertile queen bee. Can you find the queen? She has a white dot on her head.
