The SSS crew has been busy getting the Depot all dressed up for Folk Around!

If you've noticed colorful tie-dye flags dancing in the breeze around the Depot, you're getting a sneak peek of the fun. Every year, we add bright colors, folk-art-inspired decorations, and a little creative energy to help transform the space for the Folk Around Appalachian Art & Music Festival.

We love seeing the Depot come alive as we prepare to welcome musicians, artists, makers, neighbors, and visitors for an evening that celebrates the creativity, culture, and community of our region.

Keep an eye out for more tie-dye, colorful surprises, and Folk Around fun popping up around the Depot as we count down to June 13!

We are getting so excited! Folk Around is right around the corner. Make your plans to come listen to Joe Crites, The Fly Birds, and Dirty Blanket on June 13th. In addition to a great music lineup there will be all kinds of artsy goodness, food and drink, and fun community! It's free to attend, just bring you chairs and blankets and friends. ❤️

We’ve loved seeing the second floor of the South Side Depot building become a place for arts, creativity, and community. We’re honored to be included among this year’s Black Rock Community Fund grantees and grateful for support that is helping South Side Studios continue our journey toward full accessibility. Join us Tuesday, May 26 for Pilates in the Gallery: a movement experience led by Melissa Jackson inside the gallery itself. Inspired by themes of stress, healing, survival, and repair explored in the exhibition, this gentle practice invites us to slow down, reconnect, and notice what our bodies are carrying. https://square.link/u/mIU7CUSt

Now this is the kind of weekend we love. ❤️

Friday evening we gathered under the new downtown pavilion for live music with RhodoGrove — good music, good people, and one of those nights that felt really special. Seeing our community come together made us so excited for what’s ahead.

Then on Saturday we switched gears and got creative with our Create Your Own Paint Palette workshop with WV artist Nanette Seligman. Participants worked hard designing palettes customized to the way they paint, and every single one already has its own personality. They're not finished just yet — the kiln still has some work to do — but we cannot wait to share the finished results with you in a couple of weeks.

Tonight’s the night! The weather is looking beautiful — mostly sunny and in the 60s — and we are officially set for a gorgeous evening at the Pavilion. Twilight Sessions in the Square kicks off at 7:30 PM with RhodoGrove at the Rebecca Alt Lanhardt Pavilion.

A few reminders before you head out:

• Bring a blanket or chair — picnic table seating is limited
• Family Traditions Restaurant will be open until 8:00 PM right across the street — grab dinner or a to-go order before the music starts
• Heavenly Drips Coffee & Ice Cream will be on site
• Jake’s Kettle Corn will be there too

Pick up a treat, support local small businesses, and join us for a beautiful evening of live music in downtown Petersburg.
