✨ Current show alert! ✨

Feeling so grateful (and a little giddy) to have my fellowships up on the wall at Cade Tompkins Projects in Rhode Island! 💥 If you’re in or around RI, definitely drop by - the show’s a beauty.

I’m especially thrilled to be exhibiting alongside some incredible artists, including Nancy Friese, my beloved professor + mentor from RISD 🎓, Allison Bianco, my MacDowell partner in crime 🥷🏼, and of course Serena Perrone, the Director of the last residency I was at in Sicily ❤️

Hope to catch the show in person soon as I head to the US for my residency at MacDowell — lots of good things ahead.

🎵 I released a track! 🎵

It all started when I wanted to explore audio for a project I’m working on in the studio. To do that, I figured I should learn my way around a DAW — and since DAWs are built for music production, the best way to learn was to actually make some music.

What happened next was… unexpected. I fell completely in love with the process — layering sounds, playing with kicks, bass, samples, loops, synths, and diving into music theory. Somewhere in there, it began to feel like I was paying homage to my background as a classical dancer, only this time, through sound instead of movement.

And now, things have completely snowballed — I somehow have a whole track (with three beginnings and three endings 😅). It’s my very first, and you’ll hear it all: experiments, mistakes, joy, drama, and maybe a bit of childhood too.

🥳💍 18 YEARS! 💍🥳

We've been together so long, sometimes it feels like I blur into you…

Thanks for being the roots while I tested my wings (and for putting up with my weirdness for nearly two decades).

I almost can’t believe this is the post I’m publishing today 💃🏼

But here it goes - I’m honored (and over the moon!) to be selected as a MacDowell Fellow!

This comes after 18 years of eyeing their open calls and then closing my laptop window. 18 years to submit one application and it won!

MacDowell is one of the oldest and most respected artist fellowships, with a 100+ year legacy of nurturing creatives; the recipients having won 106 Pulitzer Prizes, 1009 Guggenheim Fellowships, 35 MacArthur Fellowships, 9 Academy Awards, 19 Grammy Awards and 39 Tony Awards.

To be invited into that lineage is a quiet kind of magic you just don’t see often in a career.

This winter, I’ll be spending time in the woods of New Hampshire with my work, a studio, and the kind of silence that lets new things take root.
As an artist, and a mother, space like this is a gift.

It will mean time away from my favorite people, but also a chance to return to the slow, deliberate rhythm of my practice — to get lost in the quiet again, and see what inspiration emerges.

I’ve been quiet on Instagram - not because life has been still, but because I’ve felt numb to this platform. A bit of a “who cares?” haze.

Meanwhile, I’ve been downplaying what’s been unfolding in the studio. I’m finally pulling it together to share soon.

What changed? A message from my longtime mentor, Salima Hashmi. She was in town and asked to come by the studio and then spend the day with her feet up on my couch. And somehow she reset the mood. She was excited about the new work—so much so that a few pieces went back with her to Lahore (truly the best home ever for my work). She offered generous ideas on where to push boundaries and unraveled my on‑edge studio nerves.

I found Salima jee later in life, and I’m so grateful she’s in it. Thank you for a grounding day and your positive energy. Until we meet again very soon. ✨

Lately, I’ve been experimenting with sound, trying to stretch the edges of my visual practice into audio 🎛️🎧

To explore sound more intentionally, I’ve been learning FL Studio, a music production software, by using it the way it was meant to be used: making music

And so nowadays, I’m working on a music track - a playful beginning - with the help of the very awesome, very patient ._production 🍓💜

One of my dearest friends lent me her voice while passing through town - we recorded right in my studio and living room (0% soundproofing, 100% great vibes)👩🏽‍🎤👩🏽‍🎤

Grateful for friends who say yes, even in transit 🙏🏽
