Museum Monday: Ambrotype photography is a 19th-century process using an underexposed glass negative backed with a dark material to create a unique positive image. Introduced in the early 1850s and patented by James Ambrose Cutting in 1854, it served as a faster, cheaper alternative to the daguerreotype. These two pictures are of Arabella V. Pattishall (1800-1841) who was born in Perry along with Martha Clark (1808-1857).

I presented several speeches on Georgia's signers of the Declaration of Independence on behalf of the Perry Area Historical Society. We decided to donate the poster we made to the Midway Museum near where Lyman Hall and Button Gwinnett lived. The docent Kitty Provence was grateful for our donation.

If you are ever in the Midway, GA area, please drop by their museum. You'll be surprised how much of Georgia's early history took place in this little area.

Museum Monday: according to Wikipedia, this is “A joggling board [that] is a long, flexible wooden bench supported by two curved rockers on either end, designed for bouncing and gentle swaying. Originating in South Carolina in the 1800s, they are traditionally painted deep black-green and remain a popular staple on Southern porches for relaxing, socializing, and entertaining children.” It’s also considered a courting bench. You can find many of them in Charleston. This one is from Perry. It rocks. You can find this one on the museum’s front porch.
