It's Trivia Tuesday and combined! On Friday, June 2, 1905, the Billings News announced the forthcoming visit of this Apache military leader, then a prisoner of war, to the 101 Ranch. Make your guesses—which visitor made the newspaper?

There’s a new face around the museum this summer!

Please help us welcome our new Museum Studies intern, Maddy Pense, a junior from John Brown University. Maddy will be assisting with exhibits, collections, programming, and daily museum operations throughout the summer season.

We are excited to have her join the Cherokee Strip Museum team and look forward to all she will accomplish during her internship!

Originally known as Decoration Day, Memorial Day as we know it began in 1868 by order of John A. Logan, Commander in Chief of the Grand Army of the Republic. His orders directed members of the Union veterans organization to strew flowers and decorate the graves of fallen soldiers. "Let no vandalism of avarice or neglect," he said, "testify to the present or to the coming generations that we have forgotten, as a people, the cost of a free and undivided republic."

Today we honor those who have paid the ultimate price for our freedom.

Incredible footage of pioneering Black cowboy Bill Pickett. An American West icon, he was one of the top performers for the 101 Ranch Wild West Show, where the remaining ranch headquarters still rest just 30 miles east of our museum. Also nearby, Pickett was formerly buried near the headquarters in Marland, Oklahoma, Noble County. A true trailblazer of the American West and rodeo history!
