The African American Heritage Society’s Readers’ Ensemble will be presenting readings at the Annual Books By the Bay Festival!

Our program will showcase women writers and stories centered on women, in celebration of International Women’s History Month.

Pensacola native Ist Lt. James R Polkinghorne, Jr. earned his U.S. Army Air Forces pilot wings as part of the famed Tuskegee Airmen in February 1943. Assigned to the 301st Fighter Squadron, he disappeared while flying a combat strafing mission over Italy.

Dr. Murphy’s book chronicles this mission, the history of the Tuskegee Airmen and the achievements of early Black aviators.
Members of Lt. Polkinghorne’s family will be present at the presentation and discussion.
