Perusing the 1915 publication of Mary at the Farm is getting the Schwenkfelder thinking about Christmas and which cookies to make this year. Do you like to make family classics or to try something new? Here is Mary's recipe for Honig Kuchen (Honey Cakes). (Author Edith Thomas created Mary Middleton as her semi-autographical self on this food journey.)

This fall, we're opening a new permanent exhibit, and it brings a piece of world-famous design history home to our own backyard.

The Knoll exhibit connects mid-century modern design to right here in southeastern Pennsylvania, closer than you might expect. We'll share the opening date and all the details very soon.

Germans ended up here in many ways—one of which was fighting for the enemy. On Wednesday, October 14, learn about “the famous place Trenton, which I shall never forget’: Hessian Soldiers Before, During, and After the Battle of Trenton.” Jay Domalewski of the Old Barracks Museum will share a look at how the Battle of Trenton was a life-changing experience for those Hessian soldiers, including those who returned to their regiments and Germany and those who stayed in America, melding with Pennsylvania German culture. This program is free, thanks to a grant from the Institute for Museum & Library Services and is offered in-person or by Zoom. Please register at [email protected] or 215-679-3103 and tell us which way you will be attending.

1776 Schwenkfelders: Congratulations to Abraham Yeakle and Sarah Wagner who were married this day in 1776—or on the 10th! (Historical records are always exact!) They were married by Christopher Kriebel. Abraham Yeakle, a Schwenkfelder descendent, was born March 14, 1752, to [160-2] Christopher Yeakle and Maria Schultz Yeakle. Abraham was the 4th of 6 children. He died on June 17, 1841, at 89 years of age. He was a farmer and lived in Springfield Township on a farm later occupied by his grandson Daniel Yeakle.

Sarah Wagner, also a Schwenkfelder descendant, was born to Christopher and Susanna Hübner Wagner on Feb 11, 1756. She was the first of 4 children. She died on May 28, 1833, at 77 years of age.
The photograph depicts the Yeakel Schwenkfelder Cemetery, located on the north side of Chestnut Hill near the Philadelphia line where Abraham and Sarah were buried. It was purchased in 1802 by Christopher Yeakel and his two sons, Abraham and Christopher as well as his son-in-law Abraham Heydrick, for $100. The last known burials at the site took place in 1902. Comprehensive preservation efforts were carried out at the cemetery between 2012 and 2022.
