Seldom Seen Slim was the famous, long-time sole resident and desert prospector of the ghost town of Ballarat, California.
Life in Ballarat Who he was: Born Charles Ferge around 1881, he moved to Ballarat between 1914 and 1917.
Sole resident: When the town's last mines and post office closed in 1917, everyone left except Slim, who stayed for over 50 years.
Lifestyle: He lived a minimalist life without electricity or running water, staying in a trailer and later a vehicle.
Famous quote: When asked if he felt lonely, he famously said: "Me lonely? Hell no, I'm half coyote and half wild burro."
