From celebrating the JFK High School Class of 1986, to commemorating the legacy of Larry Doby at ,and to paying tribute to the New York Black Yankees with the , we had a chance to show thousands of people what makes Hinchliffe Stadium truly HISTORIC. We were excited to host the Minds in Motion of New Jersey!! During their visit, students learned the story of Larry Doby's debut as a Cleveland Indian. July 5th was not only the day he broke the color barrier in the American League, but a day where he played 1st base for the first time in his professional career.

July 3, 1947: The Cleveland Indians purchased Larry Doby's contract from the Newark Eagles. Doby becomes the first African American player in the American League, the first African American player to go directly from the Negro Leagues to the Major Leagues, and in 1948 Doby is the First African American to hit a home run in a World Series.
