OCT. 15 PROGRAM ON MT. MICA (THIS THURSDAY; date changed from previous listing)
On Oct. 15 the Paris Cape Historical Society will host a program about the geology of Mount Mica, presented by geologist and Paris Hill resident Marc Eckels. Mt. Mica has drawn gem hunters to the area since the 19th century.
Marc is a graduate of Dartmouth College and worked as a geologist and business owner, primarily in the oil and gas industry, for more than 50 years. The program begins at 7 p.m. at the 77 High Street museum. Refreshments will follow. Join us!

On Oct. 3 at 10:30 a.m., Woodstock resident Elizabeth Klose Hartford, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, will read her children's book "The Bear and the Chair" at our museum at 77 High Street, South Paris. The story reminds readers not to always trust first impressions, and also teaches breathing to manage anxiety. Hartford has written three children’s books teaching stress management skills. The reading is part of our "Children’s Story Hour" series, in which local published children’s authors read their books to children. Children should be 3+ years old and be accompanied by an adult. Join us!

PARIS CAPE HISTORICAL SOCIETY PRESENTS "CHILDREN'S STORY HOUR" SEPT. 26
Local author/illustrator Alexandra Thompson will read her book "Hazel and Herbert" on Saturday, Sept. 26 at 10:30 a.m. at PCHS. The book is the story of a young fox who rescues a baby bluebird. Suitable for children 3+ years and older and accompanied by an adult. Snacks will be provided. Join us!

VINTAGE WINDOW GLASS ART OFFERED - Stan Matero, a local repurposed glass artist, has donated several beautiful window glass works of art to PCHS. All funds raised from their sale will benefit our ongoing museum renovations. Using glass canning jar lids found stored at PCHS, Stan creatively embellished them with marbles and stained glass. Visit our porch to view his work. Each creation captures the sun in a unique, beautiful way, making our porch come to life in a wash of colors.

PROGRAM ON OXFORD COUNTY BEAR SYMBOL AUG. 20
For a century the folks of Oxford County rallied around the “Oxford Bear” as a symbol of their rural, homespun pride and identity. On Aug. 20 at 7 p.m. writer/historian Larry Glatz will describe the origin and century-long life of the Oxford Bear as a local, state-wide and even national presence. Glatz served as chairman of the Oxford County Bicentennial Commission in 2005. He is the recipient of awards for both historical research and historical writing from the Maine Historical Society, and has published a number of works related to the history and culture of early western Maine. The Aug. 20 gathering at our 77 High Street museum is free and refreshments will be served. Join us!
