SEPT. 17 PROGRAM: FORMER SHERIFF SKIP HERRICK
Skip Herrick will present a program on law enforcement in Oxford County on Sept. 17 at the Paris Cape Historical Society. Herrick is a former Oxford County sheriff, Paris police chief, and security officer at the Oxford Casino. The program begins at 7 p.m. at the 77 High Street museum. Refreshments will follow - join us!

PROGRAM ON OXFORD COUNTY BEAR SYMBOL AUG. 20
For a century the folks of Oxford County rallied around the “Oxford Bear” as a symbol of their rural, homespun pride and identity. On Aug. 20 at 7 p.m. writer/historian Larry Glatz will describe the origin and century-long life of the Oxford Bear as a local, state-wide and even national presence. Glatz served as chairman of the Oxford County Bicentennial Commission in 2005. He is the recipient of awards for both historical research and historical writing from the Maine Historical Society, and has published a number of works related to the history and culture of early western Maine. The Aug. 20 gathering at our 77 High Street museum is free and refreshments will be served. Join us!

Thanks to donations from our supporters and a generous grant from the Davis Foundation, our new roof on our museum building was installed last month. We thank everyone who contributed!

We greatly enjoyed our visitors at tonight's Open House, held in observance of America's 250th! New exhibits display many aspects of Paris history through the years. Refreshments included delicious, patriotic cookies made by Erica Whitmore. The exhibits will continue to be on display for a while, so please stop by during our regular 1-4 p.m. hours on Thursdays.

In honor of America's 250th anniversary, PCHS is featuring an historical exhibit of Paris in an Open House Thursday, July 23 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the museum at 77 High Street. It will focus on three segments of Paris history: from the early beginnings on Paris Hill to the coming of the railroad in the mid-19th century; from the early railroad period to the 1900s; and today's Paris. Show here are two parts of the exhibit. Join us! Refreshments served.

Founder's Day on Paris Hill takes place Saturday, July 18, from 9 am to 5 pm on the Village Green, at the top of Paris Hill. PCHS will be there with an exhibit to share Paris history. Visit us!
