A proud moment for Polish Texan history!! π΅π±
On May 20, 2026, the Polish Heritage Center, in partnership with the Bexar County Historical Commission, formally commemorated the unveiling of two distinguished historical markers recognizing St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church and the historic Polish Quarter of San Antonio.
These markers now stand near the original St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church, next to the oldest tree in Hemisfair Plaza- a place rich with memory and meaning, that honor the enduring faith, cultural identity, and civic contributions of the early Polish settlers whose presence helped shape the social and spiritual landscape of San Antonio. Their legacy--rooted in devotion, perseverance, and community leadership--continues to enrich the heritage of South Texas and stands as a testament to the strength of immigrant communities in the region's development.
This significant achievement was realized through the dedication and collaboration of many esteemed individuals and supporters. With sincere appreciation, we acknowledge:
The late Bishop John W. Yanta
Aloys Notzon, Chairman & President of the Polish Heritage Center
