Palmyra's local banking business began with Wayne County Bank of Palmyra, organized in 1830. The bank operated on Main Street until terminating operations in 1840.

Pliny Sexton established the Palmyra Bank in 1844. George W. Cuyler then opened the Cuyler Bank inside the Wayne County Bank's old offices. Both banks were later combined, briefly becoming Cuyler's Bank of Palmyra. Mr. Cuyler served as president, with Mr. Sexton as vice president. Eventually, this became the First National Bank of Palmyra in 1864.

This is a c. 1900 photo of Admiral William T. Sampson (sitting) and Fred Clemons (standing), boyhood friends from Palmyra. Clemons was a Palmyra postmaster and Civil War lieutenant, while Sampson was a rear admiral during the Spanish-American War.

This is an 1898 photo of the King's Daughters' sewing class posing in front of the Palmyra Union Classical School, which was located on Canandaigua Street on the site of the present-day Palmyra-Macedon Primary School. Unfortunately, no names were included with this picture.

This is a 1915 photo of the Palmyra Village Hall. The post office was located here until 1927, when it moved across the street to the old O.J. Garlock building.

This is a c. 1910 photo of Pliny T. Sexton, who was president of the First National Bank in Palmyra. He was also a very charitable and generous man, leaving Palmyra's citizens with the Village Park, Park and Club Rooms, Prospect Hill Park, and the C.H. Rogers home for the Kings' Daughters Free Library. Mr. Sexton was also president of the local board of education in 1889 and the chancellor of New York State universities.
