We were recently featured in the latest edition of The Seed Pod, the official quarterly member magazine of the American Hibiscus Society! Founded in 1950 in West Palm Beach, this society was organized by a group of commercial growers who were also hybridizers of tropical hibiscus. There are now members in 40 states and 45 foreign countries and chapters throughout Florida.

The Ag Museum's feature article in the July 2025 - March 2026 edition of The Seed Pod details our recent acquisition of a complete collection of The Seed Pod. This publication is the core of the American Hibiscus Society's historical records, containing show records, memorials, growing and propagating information, reports of their annual convention, and more.

We are honored to add this invaluable collection of over 70 years of agricultural knowledge to our archives. The Ag Museum's archives are open to the public for research, so reach out if you're interested in looking through these publications or any of our other archival material.

You're invited to join the Friends of Manatee County Agricultural Museum at 10 AM TOMORROW, May 21st for the groundbreaking of the Ag Museum’s new on-site storage facility! We are looking forward to this new addition that will allow us to expand our collections and develop more exhibits. 🚧

🎨 Following the ceremony, step inside the museum for the opening of our newest exhibit, The Art of Regina Stahl Briskey. We are honored to showcase new works by Briskey that are inspired by Florida’s landscapes, wildlife, and pioneer heritage. Artwork will be available for purchase, and light bites will be provided.

If you are unable to attend, no worries! The Art of Regina Stahl Briskey will be on exhibit at the Ag Museum through mid-October, so stop by at your leisure to browse these pieces during our regular business hours.

Today, May 17th, is the inaugural National Little Free Library Day, marking the beginning of Little Free Library Week, May 17–23, 2026.

Observed on the anniversary of Little Free Library becoming a nonprofit in 2012, May 17th highlights the organization’s mission to build community, inspire readers, and expand book access via a global network of more than 200,000 book-sharing boxes. The Ag Museum has just one of those thousands of boxes!

This July we will be celebrating the 5-year anniversary of our own Little Free Library, so you’ll be hearing more about that in the near future. But for today, we are sharing some throwback photos from our opening day in 2021. We invite you to share books, love books, connect with our neighborhood, and engage with other Little Free Libraries in our community!
