The Palmer Museum of History and Art, founded in 2005, serves as a cultural hub for the Greater Palmer Area. Located on two acres of beautifully landscaped gardens in downtown Palmer, the Museum showcases a diverse range of exhibits, from local history and the City of Palmer’s historical object collection to artworks created by regional artists. With over 14,000 photographs and numerous artworks, the Museum highlights Palmer’s rich cultural heritage through rotating exhibits and thoughtfully curated displays that bring the area's unique stories to life.

As a dedicated non-profit organization, the Museum is committed to preserving the City of Palmer's historical collections for future generations. Additionally, the Palmer Museum provides visitor services through the Palmer Visitor Information Center, which has served as a key resource for guests since the 1960s, thanks to a generous donation of the grounds from Palmer resident Bill Hermann.

Open year-round, we welcome thousands of visitors each year, both in-person and online via our websites, offering a warm invitation to explore the history, art, and culture of Palmer.

Meet one of the Speaker's for our America 250 Event at the Alaska State Fair on August 21st @ 4PM!

Dr. Katherine "Katie" Ringsmuth ⚾🇺🇸

Dr. Ringsmuth serves in Alaska's Office of History and Archaeology as the Deputy State Historic Preservation Officer and oversees the state's National Register Program. She is the author of five books, has curated major exhibitions at the Alaska State Museum and Anchorage Museum, and continues to teach Alaska History at the University of Alaska Anchorage.

Dr. Ringsmuth is the Alaska State Historian and Co-Commissioner for America250 Alaska. She has been the driving force behind Alaska's Week of Dreams, the state's signature celebration of America's 250th anniversary. She has helped shine a spotlight on Alaska's remarkable baseball history and the lasting impact of youth sports across the state.

Her work includes successfully nominating Growden Memorial Ballpark to the National Register of Historic Places, curating a traveling exhibit on Alaska baseball, and authoring Alaska's Fields of Dreamers: America's Pastime in the Far North.

During her presentation, Katie will share highlights from Alaska's America250 celebration, the incredible stories uncovered through the Week of Dreams, and how baseball has helped shape communities throughout the state of Alaska.

We're building a roster of local artists and creative works for consideration in upcoming projects, including our building refresh, the hospital expansion, and other future opportunities.

Whether you're a painter, photographer, sculptor, jeweler, quilter, woodworker, digital artist, or creator of something entirely your own, we'd love to learn more about your artwork.

Artist of the Week: Samantha Vetter 🪶🐦‍⬛🍃🌱

Growing up surrounded by Alaska's natural beauty, Samantha developed a lifelong appreciation for the outdoors through camping, hiking, kayaking, and exploring the state's diverse ecosystems. Their passion for studying native species, gardening, and foraging informs much of their artistic perspective. Beyond their creative work, they are dedicated to supporting youth through Scouting programs that encourage leadership, advocacy, and community engagement.

This week's exhibit explores the forests, habitats, and landscapes that are vital to Alaska's bird populations. Inspired by artists such as Alice Neel, Vincent van Gogh, and Bob Ross, the collection blends impressionistic influences with a love of nature and wildlife. Chickadees, a personal favorite of the artist, appear throughout the exhibit as recurring subjects, offering viewers a glimpse into the environments these resilient birds call home.

Admission is free. Come experience this charming collection and celebrate the beauty of Alaska's birds, forests, and wild places. 🐦🌲🎨✨
