Putnam County Historical Society and Museum

Putnam County Historical Society and Museum The Putnam County Historical Society operates two historic museums in the City of Palatka and hosts county-wide educational events on a bimonthly basis.

The Putnam County Historical Society was incorporated in June of 1966. As stated in its articles of incorporation "the general purposes and objects of this corporation shall be to aid in the discovery and preservation of historical objects and events; to obtain funds for the erection of historical monuments and museums; to promote the interest of all people in the history of our area, particularly

Putnam County." The Society pursues these goals through several outlets, including: operating the Bronson-Mulholland House and the Putnam Historic Museum, hosting bimonthly historical programs, and its involvement in historical preservation. The Bronson-Mulholland House is open to the public for tours Saturday and Sunday from 1:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. Admission is free but donations are gladly accepted.

History comes alive when students step into it.

Pictured here is local student Noah McKinley with PCHS Part President Breanna Pierce during a visit to the Putnam County Historical Society. Noah was given an assignment to visit a local historic landmark and write about what he discovered, he chose The Bronson-Mulholland House.

Noah one of many students discovering that there’s a lot more to our hometown than meets the eye and we’re glad to be part of that journey.

Noah, thank you for coming to learn with us! We love welcoming students who are curious about Putnam’s history and the stories that make our community special.

This event is open to all, and after the short general meeting, we'll have presentations about the process of building the Bartram Trail in Clay County, America 250 living history and music with Back in Thyme, and stories about William Bartram during the American Revolution.

The meeting is at a University of North Florida Maintenance building.

We need your help!

Our goal is to preserve the Castillo de San Marcos for the enjoyment, education, and inspiration of this and future generations. You can do your part, too:
🥾 Please do not sit or stand on the historic walls! This is also for your safety.
🐚 Coquina is fragile. Please don’t pick at the shells in the wall; we want them to remain intact for your next visit.
🚮 Dispose of trash correctly! We have trash and recycling bins located throughout the park for your convenience. Please do not litter.

We appreciate your assistance in preserving this irreplaceable artifact!
