🐚 Why have quilters loved clamshells for generations?

They transform simple half-circles into quilts full of movement, texture, and timeless beauty, and provide a building block for both vintage-inspired patterns and bold, contemporary designs.

But don't be fooled – behind their graceful curves lies a design that demands precision, patience, and skill. That's where exhibition artist Latifah Saafir comes in.

In “Exploring Clamshells” (July 23–25), Latifah will help you unlock tips, tricks and the versatility of this iconic design as you experiment with scale, layout, and modern interpretations of a quilting classic.

Then take your inspiration beyond the classroom and explore Latifah's exhibition, “It Was All a Dream,” before it closes on July 28.

Her review of the class. 👍 Our review of their work! 👍

It's the last week of our Quilt Campa, and these Beginner quilters are off to a patchwork-perfect start. This week they'll be learning and working on basics like machine piecing, ironing, and finishing the quilt.

We'll be back at the end of the week to let you see how their quilts turned out!

The future of quilting is in good hands... theirs. 🧵🤩

Our Advanced/Intermediate Afternoon Quilt Camp campers spent the week refining their skills and exploring new techniques.

Every quilt reflects hours of work, creative problem-solving, and a growing mastery of the craft. We're so proud of these young artists and all they've accomplished. 👏

What a sweet National Sewing Machine Day!! 😋 🧵

Lots of visitors stopped by to explore our quilt art exhibitions and left with a tin of Royal Dansk cookies. After savoring the buttery cookies inside, they'll have the perfect place to store sewing notions, thread, and fabric scraps.

Thank you to sponsor Royal Dansk for making this a memorable quilting holiday!

Can these campers cut it? ✂️ 🤔

Today was the first day of our Intermediate and Advanced/Intermediate Classes. Like last week's Beginner classes, these young quilters will machine piece and iron and then work on new skills like machine quilting and binding along with–as seen here–rotary cutting.

So, will they cut it? Well, we can see they're doing a great job so far! 😄

🧵 One bold decision changed quilting history.

In 1989, museum founder Meredith Schroeder selected the first machine-quilted quilt ever to win an award at a quilt show. While controversial at the time, it set quilting on a new path...

As we celebrate National Sewing Machine Day this Saturday (June 13), we're honoring the innovation, creativity and stories that continue to shape quilting today.

😋 And because every celebration is a little sweeter with cookies, the first 200 paid museum visitors and Friends of the Museum on that day will receive a complimentary cookie tin from Royal Dansk while supplies last.

See you this weekend! Get your tickets here: https://bit.ly/NQMtickets

One week. One finished quilt. 🎉 Not bad for beginners.

This week's quilt campers learned the fundamentals of quilting from the ground up—cutting, piecing, pressing, quilting, and plenty of problem-solving along the way.

The finished projects are a testament to their creativity, patience, and willingness to try something new. We couldn't be more proud of what they accomplished in just a few short days.

Take a look at their work and help us celebrate these talented young quilters! 👏
