Monday, October 12 is Piominko Day in Tupelo. Join the Chickasaw Inkana Foundation in honoring this historically significant Chickasaw leader. This free, family-oriented event will be held at Fairpark, in front of City Hall in downtown Tupelo.

Cultural demonstrations begin at 10 a.m. and include a Chickasaw dance troupe from Oklahoma, games and interactive demonstrations. At noon a wreath-laying ceremony at Piominko's statue honors his legacy. This project is partially funded by a grant through the Mississippi Hills National Heritage Area.

The Elvis Presley Birthplace & Museum will celebrate the 70th anniversary of Elvis Presley’s historic 1956 Tupelo homecoming concert with Homecoming ’56, a free evening of live music on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2026, at Fairpark in Downtown Tupelo. The event will honor the unforgettable concert that brought Elvis back to his hometown in 1956, just as his career was reaching extraordinary new heights.

The evening will begin at 6 p.m. with The Brothers Windham, followed at 7 p.m. by the Elvis ’56 Concert featuring Elvis Tribute Artist Nick Perkins. Following the Elvis concert, the celebration will continue with a performance by Wyly Bigger, presented by Downtown Tupelo’s Down on Main Concert Series.

For Staff Saturday, we want to recognize the team of park rangers with Natchez Trace Parkway in Tupelo. These rangers help connect visitors, students, and communities with the stories and landscapes of the Natchez Trace. The Natchez Trace National Scenic Trail includes five separate trail sections totaling more than 60 miles for hiking and horseback riding.

Iconic. The National Park Service ranger flat hat is easy to spot, yet it represents far more than the role of a ranger. Behind that familiar shape is a whole community of people who care for our parks and support every visitor’s experience. Maintenance crews, interpreters, law enforcement officers, scientists, and administrative staff all help keep these places thriving and welcoming.

During National Park Week, the Natchez Trace Parkway honors their work in preserving history, culture, recreation, and natural resources in America’s 250th year.

So, tip your hat to those who wear the park service flat hat, the safety helmet, and the ballcap. Their dedication protects the public lands we all cherish.
