1,500 invitations have been mailed to artists in Kentucky and surrounding states to enter the 20TH ANNUAL BUFFALO FESTIVAL AND PAINTOUT, an en plein air event, to be presented October 1-3 at the Owensboro Museum of Fine Art.

The three-day event will be highlighted by the BRONZE BUFFALO GALA ARTISTS RECEPTION on Saturday, October 3, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., where more than $3,000 in Merit and Purchase Awards will be presented for winning entries. The Festival Reception is sponsored by Atmos Energy. The Gala will feature thematic cuisine and entertainment presented by the Bluegrass trio of Mr. and Mrs. Scott and Lauren Napier, along with Leanna Price Gaerky. Admission is $50 per person/$40 per person for Friends of the Foundation, and participating artists and a guest will be admitted free. FALL BREAK ART CAMP AT THE OMFA! Sponsored by RiverValley Behavioral Health, Fall Break Art Camp returns to the Owensboro Museum of Fine Art October 13–16! Artists ages 6–17 will explore vibrant fall colors, textures, and cultural traditions.

Session options:
Morning – 9:00-11:00 OR afternoon – 1:00-3:00

TUESDAY, OCT. 13: Pumpkin Patterns (WAITLIST AVAILABILITY ONLY FOR MORNING SESSION)
Create a one-of-a-kind Zentangle masterpiece using watercolor and illustration markers. Artists will experiment with intricate line work and patterns while discovering the relaxing practice of Zentangle.

WEDNESDAY, OCT. 14: Festive Foil
Inspired by Día de los Mu***os and Mexican Folk Art, artists will explore colorful symbolism and create elaborate decorative artwork using aluminum foil and markers.

THURSDAY, OCT. 15: String Magic (WAITLIST AVAILABILITY ONLY FOR MORNING SESSION)
Children will explore sculpting, engineering, costuming, and character development while transforming everyday materials into creative marionettes.

FRIDAY, OCT. 16: Tertiary Trees (WAITLIST AVAILABILITY ONLY FOR MORNING SESSION)
Explore color theory by mixing primary and secondary colors to create unlimited combinations. Artists will use color and shape to assemble their own beautiful fall forest on paper.

OMFA has partnered with Owensboro Community & Technical College’s Common Reading Program to bring you a special exhibition, "Kentucky Sights: Life Along the Ohio River," on display through October 6. Featuring works by Harlan Hubbard, John James Audubon, and other early Kentucky artists, this exhibition of pieces from the Permanent Collection pairs well with this fall’s Common Reading selection, "OYO: An Ohio River Anthology," which includes excerpts by Hubbard and Audubon.

It was wonderful to see creativity shine during July’s "Imaginative Surrealism” Art Camp. Young artists had a blast exploring dreamlike themes and experimenting with unusual design concepts.
