ABOUT MOONDOG
Street musician, instrument maker, and avant-garde composer, Louis Thomas Hardin (1916-1999), known as Moondog, inspired musicians as varied as Charlie Parker, Frank Zappa, and Igor Stravinsky. Known to perform his original compositions on Sixth Avenue in full Viking regalia, Moondog also maintained a home upstate in Candor, New York. These performances will celebrate the life of a true American original, whose contributions to jazz, classical, indie, folk, and rock music are incalculable.
ABOUT JULIAN CALV
Self-proclaimed as Moondog’s grand-student, Julian is the sole prodigy of Stefan Lakatos– who, to quote Moondog himself, is “the leading [and only] exponent of the Moondog method of drumming.” Through both this mentorship and dedicated study of Moondog's creative life, he upholds his grand-teacher's dying wish to “please take care of my music.”
ABOUT THE TRIMBTYCH ENSEMBLE
Overview: The Trimbtych ensemble was established by me over the course of a couple years. I've regularly been performing Hardin's music with a rotating cast of musicians and have recently formally referred to this collective as Trimbtych. The name references the trimba combined with tych for fortune. The ensemble is responsible for preserving the performance practice of Hardin's traditional music interpretations.
