On this Memorial Day - take a moment to think about those who fought and died for our Freedom. The Orwell Historical Society Museum not only has a room dedicated to local military history and the Orwell area residents who wore a uniform, but it also houses a very special relic made over a century ago - in honor of the local Orwell residents who left to fight in WWI - 6 of which didn't come home alive.

Come see this important artifact, and learn about what it represents.

The Vermont State Historic Sites wish you a happy first day of spring. To get in the spirit, consider this "Wildflowers of the Mount Nature Walk" at the Mount Independence State Historic Site in Orwell, VT. Sunday, April 30, 2023, from noon to 2 pm. You'll walk the trails with expert Amy Olmsted to look for spring wildflowers and learn all about them.

Plenty of snow remaining at Mount Independence. First full day of spring--yesterday afternoon, even after the temps rose above freezing. Think of the soldiers busy in March 1777 building the great bridge on the other end of Mount Independence.

Today, November 11th, 2022 marks the 104th anniversary of Armistice Day, and the end of WWI - let us take a moment and remember the local Orwell patriots who went to fight in the "War to End All Wars", as well as those who never came back.

Here is a reprint of a flier we produced some years back about a flag that was created to honor those selfless souls... many of their relatives are alive today - because they survived and returned home.
