ORRINGTON HISTORICAL SOCIETY DATE CHANGE

Our Tuesday, October 20, 2026 (6:30 - 8 p.m.) meeting has been changed to a Field Trip to the Winterport Historical Museum on Thursday, October 22, 2026. The Museum is located at 183 Main Street and we plan to be there when they open at noon.
The museum has been extensively renovated over the past year and just celebrated the completion with an open house. Like our past field trips to other museums and historical associations, each one offered us ideas and inspiration in the presentation and preservation of their history and Winterport seems to offer that, too.
Please join us as we show our support to a historical association that has many similarities to our own historical society.
And please pass the word about this change of date and time for this month’s meeting. Thank you. ORRINGTON HISTORICAL SOCIETY DATE CHANGE

HISTORY OF THE GRANGE

Dottie Dunton England will be presenting a program on the history of the Grange. Here, in Orrington, we were very luck that our ancestors saw the benefits of joining the National Grange program. And down thru many generations, their commitment meant that Orrington’s Enterprise Grange 173 became an asset to the whole town.
Dottie has had an interest in our Grange and has found the National Grange was an important focal point in keeping our own Grange focused and an active organization throughout the decades. What were the activities you remember?
Please join us and invite friends and neighbors to hear what makes a Grange tick .
Our meetings end with light snacks and time to socialize.

ORRINGTON ENTERPRISE GRANGE NO. 173

If you grew up in Orrington, you probably spent time in the old Grange Hall. Besides monthly meetings, Junior Grange and fundraisers, the hall was
often rented out for private events. All this, and more, fell within the guide lines of the National Grange mission statements.
Dottie Dutton England will be presenting the history of the Grange and it will be easy to see how successfully the Orrington members embraced the Grange vision.
Please join us and invite friends and family to hear just what being a grange member was all about. And we are curious, what are your memories of Grange # 176? A dance, a skit, a recital or something else?
You don’t need to be a member of the Orrington Historical Society to attend our monthly meetings. We offer light refreshments and time to socialize after our programs.

ORRINGTON ENTERPRISE GRANGE NO. 173

This month’s program will be on the history of the Grange and
Dottie Dunton England has put together an interesting presentation.
She found an overwhelming amount of material about our Grange
and, once, in a surprisingly strange place! The National Grange has
had a long history in small, agricultural communities and Orrington’s
Enterprise Grange should be proud of their own history. The outreach
and support the members gave, and received, was quite amazing.
Our meetings end with light snacks and time to socialize. Please join
us and remember, you don’t have to be a Historical Society member
to attend our meetings.

ORRINGTON ENTERPRISE GRANGE NO. 173

Dottie Dunton England grew up in Orrington just up the road from the Enterprise Grange building. Maybe this is why she has really dug into this program!
Orrington was a perfect match for the philosophy of connecting farm families and rural communities through cooperative action and education.
Dottie will be connecting the history of the Grange and how it benefited our agricultural town. What do you remember about our Grange? The meetings? The fundraising activities?
Please join us and invite friends and neighbors. Light snacks and time to socialize follow our meetings. And you don’t have to be a member of the Historical Society to attend our programs.

Dottie Dunton England has put together a two prong program on Orrington’s Enterprise Grange No. 173. This month, we will hear the history of the Grange and how its timeline wove its way thru our community.
This has been a subject that Dottie has spent hours pouring over massive amounts of Grange paperwork that was left when the Historical Society purchased the building. She found decades of official items plus newspaper and personal photos of activities that took place at our old building.
What do you remember about the Grange? It seems that the Grange was a hub for all kinds of activities. Please share your memories of our amazingly unique community cornerstone.
Please join us and pass the word about this historically interesting program. You don’t need to be a member of the Historical Society to come to our programs.
After our programs, we offer light refreshments and time to socialize.

ENTERPRISE GRANGE # 173

Dottie Dunton England will be presenting this month’s program on the Grange.
Many of us knew of the Grange but really, what was the Grange to our agricultural
community? What history do all Granges share? Look at our building, do you see the old bones on the outside and the inside of Grange # 173? If only the walls could talk…..or maybe they can!
You don’t have to be a member of the Historical Society to join us for our programs. Please let others know of this meeting.
Light refreshments and time to socialize end our evenings.
