Fall Senses Unit Study Course

Cost: $300 per student, discount for siblings, scholarships available to those in need

Grades 3 - 6

Meets online on Tuesdays from 9:00 - 11:00 and in person in Orono, ME on Fridays from 9:00 - 11:00. I will be available on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 11:00 - 1:00 for online office hours if students have questions through the week about their work.

This course will primarily cover our senses and how we use them in the fall to make observations about the world around us. There will be a small amount of homework each week that your child will be required to complete. Tuesdays we will cover the academic piece of each topic and Fridays there will be activities
to cement the information they have learned on Tuesday. In addition to the life science component of this course, there will also be a writing, math, geography and historical component.

I will provide an end of class summary for each student's homeschool portfolio.

Week 1: This week we will cover the physiological aspect of our senses. We will learn about the structure
of each organ and discover how they work together to inform us about our world.
Week 2: Sight, focusing on spiders and their webs.
Week 3: Hearing, focusing on chipmunks and squirrels
Week 4: Taste, focusing on fall spices and harvest foods
Week 5: Touch, focusing on the changing temperature
Week 6: Smell, focusing on decomposition

COVID-19 threw us for a loop, but hasn’t knocked us down. We’re moving out of the village to a beautiful spot at the end of Forest Ave. that is surrounded by acres of woods and wetlands. We’re in the process of developing learning pods of no more than 6 children that we can teach in safety and are also tutoring children remotely.
We don’t have an opening date, as we’re waiting to get feedback from other schools that open during this pandemic.
We’d love to hear from families that are looking for help in educating their children during these trying times.
