Friends, I am sorry. We will be closed tomorrow, Saturday, 08/29 due to staffing shortages. We will reopen for normal hours on Tuesday at 10:00 AM. Summer staff are leaving today and Fall staff do not return until Tuesday and Patty is being very difficult about working six days per week. 🙄 Have a fabulous weekend and come to see us soon. (just not tomorrow). 🤠

We would love to rehome these tables. They range in length from 5 ft to 8 ft. They're all sturdy but a couple are kind of ugly. We would like $10 each for them. Give us some ring @581-41oo if you are interested and would like to arrange a time for pickup.

We're excited to launch the Page Farm & Home Museum Blacksmith Shop Restoration Campaign (https://engage.umaine.edu/restoring-craftsmanship-one-repair-at-a-time), an effort to renovate and restore the Page Farm & Home Museum's historic Blacksmith Shop, so it can once again serve as a vibrant educational space for students across the state and visitors across the globe.

The restored Blacksmith Shop will allow visitors of all ages to experience live blacksmithing demonstrations, hands-on learning opportunities, and authentic stories of rural life in Maine. We have an opportunity—and a responsibility—to preserve this important piece of history for future generations.

By supporting this project, you are helping to:
● Preserve an important part of Maine's agricultural and cultural heritage.
● Expand educational programming for students, families, and community members.
● Ensure future generations can experience traditional blacksmithing firsthand.
● Strengthen one of the University of Maine's most treasured living history museums.

This Day in History
June 7, 1865

On this day in 1865, Mary Surratt became the first woman to be executed by the U.S. government, accused of being a conspirator in the assassination of Abraham Lincoln.

Surratt, owner of a tavern in Surrattsville (now Clinton), Maryland, had converted her row house in Washington, D.C., into a boardinghouse. The boardinghouse, located a few blocks from Ford's Theatre, served as a meeting place for a group of Confederate supporters, including John Wilkes Booth, who conspired to assassinate the president. Debate continues as to the extent of Surratt's involvement in the plot.

Summer is nearly upon us! As a reminder, the Museum's historic buildings, though beautiful, retain heat during hot summer days. For the safety of guests and our staff, the Museum closes when the heat index is above 95 degrees, which means internal temperatures can be significantly higher. On hot, humid days, please check our page or call the Museum at 207-581-4100 to ensure we are open. ☀
