2020 Memorial Day Col Felix Diaz spoke of the history of Ore Grande Cemetery. This probably will be the last time he will due the honors after 30 years. Missing in action was George Salazar who has gone on to his new assignment with the Lord. Johnny his son and Mayor Joe did an outstanding job putting the program together. The new rock and Beauitful grounds showed much love and care. My son Ron Thrower and myself thank you for the invitation to join this great event. We are blessed. Joy Jeannette " WALKS In Sky 'honoring Navajo and Hopi , and National Spirit of Freedom Veterans 1st.
Today, my friends and I took a tour of the Oro Grande Cemetery. We had a great guide, Joe, who takes care of this old cemetery and told us stories about some of the people who are buried there. He was a very nice and funny man. It was an amazing feeling being there and walking through the oldest cemetery in San Bernardino. I just loved hearing the stories Joe told us. If you get a chance, call Joe and schedule a tour.❣✝❣
I hear Mayor Joe is giving a tour of the cemetery on Nov 9th
***Volunteers needed*** Do your kids still need school volunteer hours? Join us to help clean the historic Oro Grande Cemetary. *When: Saturday May 12th *Time: Pick a shift between 8am - 5pm *Where: Oro Grande Cementary 1313 Olive Street Oro Grande, Ca *Who- Anyone who would like to help out, gain volunteer hours, or who wants to see some of our local history *RSVP- Melissa Evans (909) 402-5557. Please let me know what time you can make it so I can let the mayor know who is going and when. Thank you!!! ****Special assistance needed*** The mayor of Oro Grande, Jo Manners, has some incredible stories about those who reside in the cemetary (and even some ghosts who do too). Many of the stories are not yet written down. If a high school student would like to take on the project of compling these stories, that would be amazing! And I truly believe a very important historical record.
