If you haven't been down to Herkimer Home State Historic Site yet this year, now is your chance! This is the last open weekend for many museums and historic sites across the region and Herkimer Home is closing out the season with a Harvest celebration!

We are only a few days away from our Harvest Festival and closing weekend at Herkimer Home for the 2026 season. Make sure you come down this weekend Saturday the 10th through Monday the 12th to join in on the harvest fun as we prepare for the winter in true 18th century fashion.

Numerous programs are being offered throughout the weekend. Bring the family for some old fashioned fun with our toys and games program, pumpkin bowling, and carve your own pumpkins! See you this weekend!

This Saturday, September 19, 2026, stop down to River Street in Oriskany to be spectator for the first Canal Cities Classic and Canalway Trail Roll. We'll be helping with the Oriskany Welcome Tent from 10 am to 2 pm near the Erie Canal Trail parking lot.

Over two dozen watercraft will be racing from Bellamy Harbor Park, Rome to Harbor Point, Utica with a portage at Oriskany - the kayaks and canoes will be taken out of the Barge Canal and carried from the canal to the Mohawk River to continue their race.

Nearly twice as many cyclists will follow along the Erie Canal Trail at a more leisurely pace from Rome to Lock 20, Marcy, before making the return trip.

Part of River Street near Oriskany will be closed to allow the bikes and boats to travel through. Stop down around 10 am to watch the boats arrive on the Barge Canal. The bicycles will begin arriving a little before noon.

Afterward, stop down to Harbor Point, Utica for the Erie Canal History & Heritage Festival and after race party from 2 to 6 pm. The Oneida County History Center and the Utica Children's Museum will be there, plus a Saranac tent and live music. A great opportunity to enjoy the fall weather! 🍂🍁🌻

Did you get enough Revolutionary War history yet this season? The Steuben Memorial State Historic site in Remsen is hosting two days of programming on September 12 and 13, 2026.

(The Oriskany Museum will close at 1:30 pm on Sunday, Sept. 13, 2026 so we can see some of our local history partners in action. Hope to see you in Remsen!)

History comes to life at the Steuben Memorial State Historic Site during Drill, Duty, Revolution, a two-day encampment honoring Baron von Steuben.

On September 12 & 13, explore what life was like during the Revolutionary era with military camp demonstrations, historic trades, 18th-century games, artillery demonstrations, and more.

Throughout the weekend, visitors can experience: 🪖 18th-century military camp life 🍺 Historic brewing demonstrations 🧺 Historic laundry demonstrations 🎲 18th-century toys & games 💥 Artillery demonstrations 📜 The Revolution Traveling Exhibit 🎶 A performance by the Utica Maennerchor and a commemorative ceremony on Sunday
