To the tradesmen and contractors that provided suggestions and pricing for retaining and restoring the East Oreland Schoolhouse (Upper Dublin's EPI Center)-

We are very disappointed to report that the Upper Dublin Commissioners have voted to demolish our historic Schoolhouse. After over a year of work, our group was very close to having a package for transition ownership (The Heritage Conservancy) and long term occupancy (a music & arts center, similar to the Cheltenham Art Center), which would have only cost the township $150,000 (including demolition of the 1949 portion of the building). At the September Board of Commissioners meeting we pleaded for another month to work out these details. We also hoped to have a chance to present our concept to our neighbors, in September, to determine the level of support, and to discuss alternatives. We were rejected. For more information, check out the e-mail links below.

At this point, the township has removed the cupola from the roof, and the demo contractor has begun the asbestos abatement process.

This e-mail is to thank all of the companies (listed below in order of contact) for their time and advice, and also to let the neighborhood members of this EPI Center group know who you are. I met with representatives of all of these companies/tradesmen and recommend them all highly.
