🖼️ Artwork Highlight from Gallery 2, Picturing the Wild West 🖼️

Gallery 2 features the work of artists who presented vivid images of Western peoples. Their paintings and sculptures created iconic representations of characters such as the courageous cowboy, as seen in Frank Tenney Johnson’s “Night Rider.”

Johnson developed a specialty of painting nocturnes, paintings of night scenes. His image of the solitary cowboy in the subdued colors of night evokes the romance of the West. It is also a scene of cowboy work because a traditional task was guarding the herd at night.
