“Early Risers” and “First Outing” by artist John Schoenherr.

Schoenherr was an American Postwar & Contemporary painter who was born in 1935. Numerous key galleries and museums have featured John Schoenherr’s work in the past.
Next to his commercial art, Schoenherr was also very well known as a wildlife artist and children’s book illustrator, with over forty books to his credit. Most of his black-and-white illustration work used the scratchboard technique, and often egg tempera. Schoenherr also completed paintings for NASA and his knowledge of zoology was very useful in creating alien creatures.

Sandhill Cranes - Aaron Yount, Artist
Aaron Yount, was Artist in Residence from 2012 -2015 at the Hiram Blauvelt Art Museum.

He is an artist who works in a realistic style to depict wildlife and their habitats. Through his work, Aaron strives to establish an intimate connection between the viewer and his subjects.

Aaron has works in galleries and private collections throughout the United States. He is a member of the Society of Animal Artists, Illinois Art League, Audubon Society, Cornell Lab of Ornithology and Parklands Foundation.

Facts about the Blauvelt Art Museum we bet you didn’t know.

1. The Blauvelt Art Museum is one of only a 5 of museums in the United States dedicated exclusively to wildlife art.
The museum focuses entirely on artwork celebrating wildlife and the natural world, making it a unique destination for both art lovers and conservation enthusiasts.
2. The museum was founded in 1957.
It was established by the Blauvelt-Demarest Foundation as a legacy to preserve and share the vision of founder Hiram Blauvelt.
3. Hiram Blauvelt was a conservationist as well as an adventurer and collector.
He believed wildlife art could inspire people to appreciate and protect animals and their habitats long before conservation became a mainstream movement.
4. The museum originally began as a natural history museum.
Early visitors viewed wildlife specimens and exhibits designed to educate young people about conservation and the importance of protecting habitats.
5. The museum reinvented itself in the 1980s.
About twenty-five years after opening, the museum shifted its focus from natural history collections to showcasing contemporary wildlife artists from around the world.
