We had a great time learning and sharing information with everyone last night at this wonderful class. Instructors were Emily Emfinger with Southern Heritage Bank in Olla and Connie Lindsey with Southern Heritage Bank in Tullos. Participants were given information on STOP: A 4-step scam check, Common Red Flags, Before Signing a Loan the Questions to Ask and a Personal Protection Plan they can put into use immediately. Class 2 - Understanding & Improving Your Crdit + Saving Strategies will be held Septembe 7, 2026 @ 6:00 pm. at the Centennial Cultural Center.

THE EXPERIMENTATION STATION SCIENCE CAMP

This year’s Summer Science Camp for the older campers was a rousing success according to Mr. Prentiss Powell, the camp’s organizer. It was an improved version of his first Science Camp nine years ago, and had it not been for the intervention of Covid, would have been his tenth.
The focus on this camp consisted of basic electrical circuits, construction of simple batteries from common items, such as nails, pill bottles, and pennies, with particular emphasis placed on solar energy. As part of the program, solar garden lights were dissected, and students were taught to use multimeters to record voltages as the charge on the batteries declined. In addition, campers constructed a solar-powered car, an airplane with a solar powered propeller, and a small battery powered fan that could be converted into a wind powered generator. Campers gained experience performing experiments with solar cells and collecting data with the multimeters, as Mr. Powell stated at the beginning of the camp, “Science is doing what real scientists do”.

CCC Hosts Annual Science Camp

The Centennial Cultural Center hosted its annual Science Camp in Olla, Louisiana. Throughout the five-day camp, children from the ages 5 to 8 learned fascinating facts about the world around them through hands-on activities, experiments, and interactive lessons.
Campers discovered a variety of scientific concepts while participating in exciting challenges designed to spark curiosity and encourage exploration. Throughout the week, they learned unique ways scientists identify and classify living things.
The Centennial Cultural Center hosted its annual Science Camp in Olla, Louisiana. Throughout the five-day camp, children from the ages 5 to 8 learned fascinating facts about the world around them through hands-on activities, experiments, and interactive lessons.
Campers discovered a variety of scientific concepts while participating in exciting challenges designed to spark curiosity and encourage exploration. Throughout the week, they learned unique ways scientists identify and classify living things.
One of the camp’s main focuses was animal classification. Participants learned how scientists identify mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and a variety of invertebrates by observing their unique characteristics. To reinforce what they learned, campers sorted animals into classification groups, solved mystery animal challenges, and explored how animals adapt to their environments.
The camp emphasized curiosity, teamwork, and critical
thinking as participants worked together to solve problems and apply their new knowledge through hands-on activities.
Several special guests visited during the week to make the experience even more engaging. Bro. Steve Jensen introduced campers to a variety of snakes-reptiles and other reptiles while teaching them about reptile characteristics. Tanya Sturman with Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries shared information about mammals, while Kathy Littlepage led activities focused on insects, worms, soil, and plants.

SPECIAL NEEDS CAMP
CENTENNIAL CULTURAL CENTER
Special Needs Camp was held at the Centennial Cultural Center. Each year, the camp features a new theme, with this year’s celebration, “Color My World,” encouraging creativity, fun, and friendship through a variety of engaging activities.
Each morning campers began the day with music and dancing before rotating through theme activity stations designed to provide hands-on learning creativity, and excitement.
On the third and final day of the camp kids and volunteers went to the Urania Park to enjoy games and outdoor activities and time together.
The camp would not have been possible without the amazing LaSalle Parish Special Education Supervisor, Special Education teachers, and volunteers who shared their time and kindness. We are so fortunate that our children have these wonderful teachers who give of their time each Summer to make the Special Camp happen. THANK YOU!
