Purple with White Irises by Mira Fink Mira is an accomplished artist, educator and naturalist. Specializing in landscapes, she is known for her richly colored art which captures the beauty of the Hudson Valley and reflects her deep connection with nature. She has been teaching art (and natural science) for over twenty-five years and exhibiting art in juried and solo shows for over thirty. Her work is in private collections nationally. She studied painting at the Woodstock School of Art, then continued her education by taking classes with prominent watercolor artists and also botanical illustrators from the NY Botanical Gardens. She later became a certified teacher after earning a BFA in painting and a MS in Education from SUNY New Paltz. Her illustrations have appeared in literary journals, natural science publications, magazines and recently, in a book of nature poetry. She loves working in watercolors as this media is excellent for portraying light, transparency and color found in nature. She says, “My art is about the vividness of color, the energy of living things and what happens when you slow down long enough to truly see and appreciate it.” More information about the artist at: www.mirafink.com

Wilderstein by Jane Birmingham
The use of color through painting is wonderfully emotive for me. Also, I like that art is my brain teaser: the process of creating art is filled with challenges, problem solving, and heightened concentration.

In my mid-20’s, I attained an M. A. In Art Therapy, which was a novel field of study at that time. It combined my undergraduate degree in Psychology with my concentration in Studio Art classes. I was employed as an art therapist for Hudson River Psychiatric Center, at its community based location in Kingston, N. Y., for thirty years.

Retirement offered opportunity to focus on my own creativity again. I took many plein air classes with local artist, Mira Fink. Working mostly in watercolor, many of the paintings in this exhibit were started in these plein air classes. My passion for historic architecture, flower gardening and nature are prominently featured here.
