A farmer of many talents!

We take education seriously at Mahaffie, and that means giving staff the opportunity to challenge themselves and learn new skills. Farmer Grace has been spending time with our blacksmiths, learning the ropes of the forge and how to interpret the station for visitors. Her current project is a lid lifter for the summer kitchen stove.

That’s how the Santa Maria Times described the lemon cucumber in 1889 when one was brought to their office. While sadly not lemon-flavored, this heirloom variety gets its name from its shape and color. 🍋🥒

Percy and Penny hit the road pulling the Concord today. They'll continue to train and condition with our livestock staff this fall before joining the rotation of working teams.
