Dummy Hoy was a Deaf professional baseball player. At that time, people called anyone dumb or dummy just because he can’t speak. He had a great baseball career. He was good at drawing the walks and stealing the bases. It was claimed that he invented the baseball signals such as balls & strikes, safe, and out. He still hasn’t voted into MBL Hall of Fame. We need 1 million petitions by 2027. Let’s sign the petition.

William Ellsworth Hoy changed baseball forever. It's time the Hall of Fame recognized it. The Classic Era Committee votes in December 2027.

Dr. Laurene Simms has shown that education is not only about instruction. It is about identity, language, access, and making sure Deaf children of color can see themselves in the future.

As an educator, scholar, advocate, and leader in bilingual ASL/English education, Dr. Simms continues to open doors for Deaf children, families, and communities of color.

Next week, MDHAC will honor Dr. Laurene Simms at **Signs and Sweets**, an elegant afternoon of hors d’oeuvres, desserts, and community celebration.

Ella Mae Lentz reminds us that ASL is not only how we communicate. It is how we create, remember, resist, and belong.

As an ASL poet, activist, founder, and cultural leader, Ella Mae has helped generations see ASL as a language, an art form, and a powerful part of Deaf identity.

Next week, MDHAC will honor Ella Mae Lentz at **Signs and Sweets**, an elegant afternoon of hors d’oeuvres, desserts, and community celebration.
