Oklahoma City/County Historical Society Preserving and sharing the historical heritage of Oklahoma City and Oklahoma County.

We do NOT allow or post images created or manipulated by artificial intelligence. We conduct regular membership meetings with interesting and informative programs designed to stimulate interest in state and local history while maintaining an emphasis on Oklahoma City and the surrounding Oklahoma County. Each year we honor individuals, from both past and present, whose efforts and accomplishments h

ave shaped the fabric of our city and county. These honorees are deemed “Pathmakers” as their contributions have led the path in the very making of history. We assist and work closely with The Oklahoma Historical Society, The Oklahoma Heritage Association, and other statewide organizations in matters pertaining to the history of Oklahoma City and Oklahoma County. As a historical organization we offer our assistance upon request by these and other worthwhile organizations. We conduct regular membership meetings with interesting and informative programs designed to stimulate interest in state and local history while maintaining an emphasis on Oklahoma City and the surrounding Oklahoma County. These honorees are deemed “Pathmakers” as their contributions have led the path in the very making of history.

2017 marked the 40th anniversary of the OKCCHS. Over the years we have amassed a very sizable collection of artifacts, of all possible description, representing the history of our area. It is our goal to actively present these treasures of history to the public in a number of different public forums to help raise the awareness of how historically significant Oklahoma City and County has been to the development of the state. We currently have numerous projects in the works to include promoting a campaign fund to establish a permanent display of Oklahoma City's heritage and history in a city museum located in Downtown OKC. OKCCHS is a non-profit 501(c)(3), all volunteer organization and we welcome anyone who would like to become involved in our efforts. We are a dedicated group who feel that we would like to make a sincere effort to preserve for the next generation the history of our area.

The Oklahoma City/County Historical Society has moved to a new address with an updated website (www.okchistory.com). This upgrade was done as part of the ongoing integration of the best of the Oklahoma City/County Historical Society and the best of Retro Metro OKC, which is now a project of the historical society.
Since the two groups joined together two years ago, we have brought back tours and speakers with past events including a tour of the historic Sun Dial mansion and the unveiling of the C.G. Jones memorial at the OKC Fairgrounds.
The new website, at www.okchistory.com, will be regularly updated with blog posts, event postings, and helpful lists of history books and research resources.
Our first bus tour will start at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 28, at POPS in Arcadia.
We will be joined by Rhys Martin, president of the Route 66 OK Association, who will provide us a three-hour guided tour (with some stops) of Route 66 landmarks and history in Oklahoma County.

Tickets are $20 each.
Please arrive at 8:50 a.m. so we can leave at 9 a.m. We will meet at POPs in 660 OK-66 in Arcadia. Seating is limited, so please make your reservation and buy tickets via PayPal at https://okchistory.com/event/route-66-bus-tour/

The tour will last three hours with a drop off at POPs when the bus ride is completed. At POPS we hear a bit more about Arcadia landmarks, including the Round Barn and the town itself.
If you have any questions, please email [email protected].

This ia a nice Mother's Day gift to me...several of my church members subscribe to the Oklahoman. They LOVED the article in the paper and one of them brought an extra copy of it for me. They were as proud as they could be....and I was happy, too!

Anita Arnold sees progress since days of segregation in OKC, but says it's important to honor and remember past history and not "let sleeping dogs lie."
