Gold Dome Multicultural Society

Gold Dome Multicultural Society The Multicultural Society art gallery has become a place for local and minority artists to display their work.

Each artist receives museum space for six to eight weeks. To promote community awareness, the art gallery has hosted public art exhibition openings with children's activities. Since May of 2005, the Multicultural Society has hosted 26 art exhibitions with artists from varied cultural backgrounds, including: Corazon Watkins, a sculptor from the Philippines; Nick Wu, a Chinese portrait artist; Marcu

s Eakers and Al Bostic two African-American painters; Facets of the Feminine, a group show for local women artists; Carlos Tello, a Latin American artist; and Spontaneous Bob, a pop-culture artist. More recent exhibitions include the Respect Diversity Foundation symbols of diversity artwork by area school students and the current Islamic Culture & Art Exhibit featuring the works of four local Muslim artists. Arabic calligraphy and folk art are the subject matters for the artist’s works. Attendance for each of these public activities averages 150 residents per opening. We have a goal to increase this amount to 300 for future events. An increase in community attendance at Gold Dome Multicultural Society art openings will provide a greater opportunity for relationships among community members from diverse backgrounds to develop. It will allow more artists from all walks of life to present their art, and children will be exposed to the cultural events within their own community, as well as cultural influences affecting people around the world.
