Two of our skeletons are spending some time at the library! A real hippo skeleton is at the Edmond Library, and our giraffe skeleton is at The Village Library, where its head reaches up to the ceiling.

They're visiting the library for eight weeks, so if you're near either one, stop in and say hello. Then come see the rest of the collection at the museum.

The February 1961 LIFE cover in this case is Ham, photographed after his flight. The skull in front of it belonged to a chimpanzee from the same program.

Nobody knew what launch forces, weightlessness and reentry would do to a primate body, and chimpanzees were close enough to us to find out.

It is a complicated piece of history and we display it as one.

An owl swallows its prey whole and then brings back up everything it cannot digest, which is how you end up with a pellet full of bones! Pull it apart carefully and you could sort a whole rodent skeleton out of it, skull included.
