Did you know that on July 2, 1980, President Jimmy Carter made Proclamation #4772 declaring, "The art of painting on porcelain has been recognized as a fine art by all the world's great civilizations and has enriched museums in many countries for hundreds of years. This art form, requiring skill, training, and talent has been enthusiastically adopted and enhanced by thousands of talented Americans who labors will awe and delight generations yet to come." The Congress, by Senate joint Resolution 115 requested the President to proclaim the month of July 1980 as National Porcelain Art Month. By recognizing porcelain painting as a Fine Art, this proclamation enabled porcelain artists to participate and compete in the field of Fine Arts. WOCP delegates and many porcelain painters from around the country traveled to Washington D.C. to be present for this major event for the art of porcelain painting.
