The Opening Reception for Lauren Hanson: Natural Reflection is this Saturday, May 23rd, from 2 – 4 pm. The public is invited to attend.
It’s a beautiful collection of work - expertly designed and beautifully crafted - celebrating the natural world. There are hand-carved porcelain tea cups featuring wide-ranging flora with celadon glazes, salt-fired stoneware vessels with mermaids, crows, and mugs featuring an array of birds, as well as tree vases, hummingbirds, waterlilies, whales, waves, clouds, loons, and cranes. Past exhibitions of Lauren Hanson’s work have largely sold out within the first week. View the entire collection at: https://www.beatricewood.com/laurenhanson/index.html or if you are able to attend in person, it’s an exhibition of ceramic works that you’ll love to view – and be tempted to collect.

“What if a morning could feel different — not rushed, not noisy, not ordinary?”

Good Morning with Miss Ma is part of the Life is an Art series — an ongoing program by artist and musician Jie Ma (Miss Ma) rooted in the belief that everyday life holds the potential for deep artistic presence.

This is not a class. This is not a concert. This is an intimate, immersive, art-centered morning experience that awakens the senses through nature, breath, movement, and sound. Drawing from Traditional Chinese Medicine breathwork, Taiji-inspired movement, and a philosophy of deep listening, participants are guided into a rare state of stillness and sensory awareness — held within the breathtaking landscape of Ojai’s Happy Valley.

Surrounded by gardens, mountain views, and the artistic spirit of the Beatrice Wood Center, each session is intentionally intimate and accessible to all — including seniors and those new to movement or meditation practices.

What You’ll Experience:
Gentle breath awareness and morning body awakening
Taiji-inspired slow movement with Qi awareness, accessible for all levels
A silent garden listening walk through nature’s soundscape
Guided sound awareness with wind chimes, bowls, rain disks, and subtle percussion
Closing resonance — a quiet, grounded ending to carry into your day
Informal tea and community conversation to close

About Miss Ma:
Jie Ma — known as Miss Ma — is an artist, musician, and educator whose practice weaves together sound, movement, and the principles of Traditional Chinese culture. Her Life is an Art series reflects a deep commitment to bringing world-class artistic experiences to the community at accessible rates, believing in the transformative power of art — one person at a time.
