FREDTALK CANCELED

We’re very sorry to share that today’s scheduled FREDTALK with the Cowboy Artists of America has been canceled due to an unexpected, last-minute change in their availability.

We know many of you were looking forward to joining us this afternoon, and we sincerely apologize for the disappointment and inconvenience. Our team was notified just before the program and did everything we could to respond quickly, but unfortunately, we were unable to make the program happen today.

We are hopeful that we may still be able to collaborate with the artists in the coming weeks to record some interviews and conversations for our YouTube channel, allowing us to share some of the stories and perspectives that were planned for today’s FREDTALK. However, those conversations are still tentative, and we don’t have anything confirmed at this time.

Thank you to everyone who planned to attend for your patience and understanding. We’re disappointed that today’s program couldn’t go forward, but we hope to have more to share with you soon.

Make sure to come see this amazing temporary exhibit before it is taken down on November 1.

What an incredible few days it has been at the Re*****on Museum of Art . From our opening birthday celebration to fascinating lectures, engaging panels, special tours, archival encounters, and conversations with scholars, historians, museum professionals, and members of our community, the inaugural Re*****on Symposium was a wonderful celebration of Frederic Re*****on, his work, and the many stories surrounding his art and legacy.

We are so grateful to everyone who helped make this first Symposium possible. Unfortunately, our food truck had some unexpected vehicle trouble and won’t be able to join us today. But the celebration is still going strong! 🥳

Sometimes, the most interesting stories about Frederic Re*****on come from the families who have carried them through generations.

Beth Gaines recently visited the Re*****on Museum of Art from her hometown of Westmoreland, Kansas, and brought with her a fascinating family story connected to Fred.

Beth shared that her great-grandfather, Grandon Scrivner, was a gentleman farmer in Butler County, Kansas, where he raised sheep. Fred also tried his hand at raising sheep during his time in Butler County.

According to Beth and her family’s accounts, Grandon and Fred became friends during those years. Her family remembers that the two “made merriment” together and frequently spent time at a local saloon.

While these stories come to us through Beth’s family history, rather than the Museum’s own research, they offer a fascinating glimpse into the people and places surrounding Re*****on during his years in Kansas.

Join us Sunday, October 4, from 12–4 PM at the Museum as we celebrate Frederic Re*****on’s birthday with tours, family activities, a food truck, and birthday cake generously donated by Price Chopper in Ogdensburg.

Then, from October 5–6, nationally recognized scholars, regional historians, museum professionals, and community members will gather for presentations, panels, tours, and special opportunities to explore Re*****on’s life, work, and legacy.

Highlights include a visit to Re*****on’s birthplace and final resting place in Canton, a tour of Saint Lawrence University’s Re*****on collection, and a Local History panel.
