December minutes
December 16, 2024
The Odebolt Historical Museum members meet at 5:45 pm. President Kathy Larson called the meeting to order with the following members present- Mary Schroeder, Kathy Larson, Kathy Drake, and Sheryl Diersen. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. Treasure’s report was not presented. A bill was presented from Fineran Construction for the work done on the second-floor stairway. Kathy Drake made a motion to pay the bill as presented, Sheryl seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Odebolt Betterment Committee gave a donation to the museum, as a thank you for helping with the recent Odebolt Veteran’s Memorial rededication. The museum appreciates their thoughtfulness.

Members shared the names of several cleaning services to investigate to do the museum’s Spring cleaning. If anyone knows of individuals or businesses that could do our Spring cleaning, please contact one of the museum board members.

Old Business -
Board members were pleased with the improvements to the second-floor stairway.

Kathy Larson spoke with Pest Pro, Sioux Center about our bat issues. They would be willing to help us. They recommended waiting until spring for best results.

Kathy Larson shared an email from Heidi Tunberg regarding her collection of Odebolt history. The museum appreciates her willingness to share her findings about Odebolt's history.

New Business -
There being no new business, the meeting was adjourned.
The next meeting will be January 20th at 5:30 pm.

NOVEMBER MINUTES
November 18, 2024
The Odebolt Historical Museum members meet at 5:30 pm. Vice President Sheryl Diersen called the meeting to order with the following members present – Pam Hansen, Renae Babcock, Kathy Drake, Stephanie Reinhart, Mary Schroeder, and Sheryl Diersen.
Minutes of the previous meeting were read. Correction to the Howard Hoefling donation was recorded. Motion to accept the minutes as corrected was made by Pam Hansen, seconded by Steph Reinhart. Motion carried. Renee presented the updated treasurer’s report. The report was approved as read. Members welcomed a visitor, Camille Moawad, who recently moved to Odebolt.
Old Business -
The improvements to the 2nd floor stairway are scheduled to begin November 26.
Sheryl shared information from Kathy Larson that she gathered after talking to several bat control companies. After discussion members decided to table the issue till spring since bats are dormant during the winter months.
The museum is still looking for individuals/cleaning services to do Annual Spring cleaning of the museum.
Stephanie shared the business cards she made for the museum.
New Business -
Odebolt Betterment Committee donated 3 half mannequins as a thank you for being able to use military items for the recent Odebolt Veterans Memorial rededication.
The museum had 2 visitors after the recent Odebolt Veterans Memorial rededication. Heidi Tunberg from Minneapolis, MN who has ties to the Odebolt and Arthur areas shared a wealth of information about Odebolt’s history. She has done extensive research into her family ties to Odebolt. Kathy Larson took many notes from her visit and will share them at our next meeting.
The next meeting will be December 16th at 5:30 pm.
The meeting was closed by a motion from Stephanie, seconded by Renae. Motion carried.

AUGUST 19, 2024 MUSEUM MINUTES
The Odebolt Historical Museum members meet at 5:00 pm. President Kathy Larson called the meeting to order with the following members present – Pam Hansen, Sheryl Diersen, Kathy Larson, Renae Babcock, Stephanie Reinhart, and Mary Schroeder. The minutes of the May 20th meeting were read and approved as presented. Renae gave the updated Treasurer's report and approved as presented.
Old Business -
Greg Neville looked at the north door and explained it wasn’t an issue with the door, but the building above the door needed caulking. Greg did the needed caulking.
Michael Grote looked at the water issue in the basement along the west wall. He wasn’t aware of the small room that goes under the street. He stated that snow is piled on the street above this room, and this could be the reason water comes in the basement. He will make sure that snow is piled at a different location in the future.
Thanks to Kathy Larson for organizing the yearbooks.
Members are exploring the possibilities of using the 2nd floor of the museum. Along with the utilization of the 2nd floor, the museum would need to investigate the addition of an elevator to make access to the 2nd floor possible.
Members were very happy with Beekman’s Old Fashion Ice Cream at Odebolt Creek Days. 500 free cups of ice cream were served to Creek Days visitors. Members are planning to have Beekman's come next year.
Stephanie showed members the business cards she made. A few changes were suggested, and she will have them ready soon.
New Business -
Doug Schwaller donated a replica of a Cracker Jack popcorn crib he made to the museum. We will add it to our present collection of popcorn memorabilia.
Per Mar Security recently inspected the security system in the museum.
Kathy Larson will check into installing a Wi-Fi thermostat.
The election of officers will be on the agenda next month. Our next meeting will be September 16th at 5:00 pm.

The Odebolt Rural School Museum, the Petersen Pioneer House and the Odebolt Museum are sponsoring BEEKMAN'S HOMEMADE ICE CREAM at Odebolt Creek Days on June 8th.

Pick up your ticket at any of the 3 museums to get a free cup of homemade ice cream. Beekman's Ice Cream will be set up across the street from the vendor fair behind the SCSB. They will be offering 4 different flavors of old-fashioned homemade ice cream.

MAY ODEBOLT MUSEUM MINUTES:
"Plans are in place for Beekman’s Old Fashion Ice Cream to serve free ice cream during Odebolt Creek Days. Visitors will be given a ticket for free ice cream by stopping by the Iowa Rural Schools Museum, Petersen Pioneer Home and Odebolt Museum. We plan to give out 350 free tickets. Pam Hansen will make posters giving Creek Day visitors information about getting Beekman’s good ice cream. Ice cream will be served from 9 am till closing."
