Please join us in welcoming Morgan DeCanio to our Gallery!!
Morgan began creating her artwork after taking up spearfishing as a hobby and wanting a meaningful way to document each catch. That led her to discover the traditional Japanese art of gyotaku (gyo meaning "fish" and taku meaning "rubbing"), a printmaking technique dating back to the 1800s.
Each original print is created directly from the fish using non-toxic inks, making every piece a one-of-a-kind record of that individual catch. A core philosophy of gyotaku is that nothing is wasted—the fish can be cleaned and enjoyed after printing. Sharing that meal with friends is one of my favorite parts of the process, reflecting the respect I have for both the fish and the tradition.

Announcing the newest artist, Walter Gordon , to join our band of merry artists!

Walter Gordon is a graduate of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Originally a native of Chicago he relocated to Alexandria, Virginia, where his work has been exhibited in the Torpedo Factory Art Center. His work is primarily in the genre of realistic/figurative art and especially portraiture. He has been exhibited as an artist in Chicago, Washington DC, and other locations on the east coast. He has been creating art for the past 15 years.

Artist's Statement:

My work concentrates on the experience of the viewer in interacting with art. Drawing on traditions of realism and expressionism the primary subject of my art is figurative (especially though not exclusively of the human figure), and examines the experience of ways of seeing. Therefore, I think it is important that my art be done in a figurative style because that is the most accessible visual language to people, since these feelings are inherently short lived. Thus it must be depicted in a way mimicking reality so that it may be instantly grasped by the viewer, to be impactful. My art is intended to induce the audience to reflect. Hence a central theme in my work is the concepts of anxiety, disquiet, and fear, as these feelings are more likely to unsettle the viewer from their normal experience of seeing the world.

Check out Valerie Pugh Larson's pet portraits!
Kenzie, a sweet Walker hound mix who was rescued from under a trailer of a backyard hunting dog breeder at 8 weeks old. Kathleen says she has a great nose and greater appetite and is silly, talkative, and loyal. She saves her family from the dangers of delivery trucks and people daily! 😂💕 I enjoyed getting lost in her big, brown eyes! 🥰

1. Final artwork - 16” x 20” watercolor on Aquabord.

2-3. The actual watercolor on Aquabord mounted on birch wood. It can hang or stand as is or be framed with a floater frame - it’s nice to have options! 😉

4-5. Photos showing what 24” x 30” prints could look like in a home setting. “Kenzie” is available for prints under the “Animals” tab on my website, and even though the original is small, my high-resolution images can be printed quite large! 🤩
