HONFLEUR GALLERY

OPENING RECEPTION: SATURDAY, JANUARY 14, 2023 @ 5:00PM-8:00PM

Honfleur Gallery presents Stevens Jay Carter : Modern Master (1958-2021), showcasing a powerful spectrum of work from January 14, 2023 to February 18, 2023.

Stevens was a dynamic and prolific American abstract visual artist, who worked tirelessly to be artistically diverse, employing a range of mediums - from painting and sculpture to clothing and decor - to articulate his many visions. In recent years, his work addressed the coronavirus pandemic and other critical social issues. Stevens’ ethos and unwavering tenacity to be a positive force through art, rendering peace and harmony, resonates brightly through his collected works. This exhibition features pieces that explore the essence of America in its many forms. With titles including Amerressence, Emblematic, Corporate Corruption, Euphoria, and Silent, Stevens’ themes are socially relevant and hopeful.

A true humanitarian and community organizer, Stevens extended his vision beyond his own work, co-founding Project Brasas in Washington, D.C. to showcase the work of artists in alternative arts spaces in D.C.’s Penn Quarter. In his Oakland, California neighborhood, he and his wife Carol co-founded the International Peace and Art Center, hosting events that promoted peace and harmony through the arts. In Stevens’ world, joy and hope rule, through musically inspired works shining much-needed light on the redemptive possibilities of human connection.

On display: Saturday, January 14, 2023 - Saturday, February 18, 2023

Oakland street art is 🔥

The tallest mural in Oakland, "The Child", stands at 190-feet and was painted by artist Victor Ash in the heart of The Town on the side of the 21 story Oakland Marriott City Center.

The monumental painting, realized in 9 days in early 2021, is the third of six in support of the United Nation World Food Programme's Zero Hunger campaign.

SOEY MILK

About Soey Milk
With highly-refined and meticulously executed graphite drawings to complex, dreamlike oil paintings of ethereal young women suspended in fluttering robes of richly-patterned fabrics drenched in color, Soey Milk drifted onto the art scene like a sultry summer storm. These expertly rendered, euphoric scenarios entice viewers to yearn for understanding of Soey’s mysterious world. Her enchanting sirens and floating dreamscape imagery are common threads throughout her art, yet she is continually exploring and experimenting with surprising new mediums and methods. Her recent work has combined glitter and flower petals with oil paint. The subject matter presents a seductive and curious innocence that is a clear reflection of this talented ingénue. Sometimes playful, often contemplative, but always present is an essence of serenity and delicate beauty in these odes to femininity ...
