A unique aero-inspired Hispano-Suiza was awarded the top prize at the 2025 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. 🏆

This year, 229 cars—including 55 international entries from 22 countries and 174 US entries from 31 states—pulled onto the competition field, and the car named Best of Show was a 1924 Hispano-Suiza H6C Nieuport-Astra Torpedo shown by Penny and Lee Anderson Sr. of Naples, Florida.

“This Hispano-Suiza ticks every possible box,” said Concours Chairman Sandra Button. “The underpinnings are technically advanced. The body is meticulously hand-crafted, light, and lovely. It was, notably, commissioned by aperitif scion André Dubonnet, and he raced it in both the Targa Florio and the Coppa Florio.

Auction Alert. The 1923 H6B that was restored (recreated?) from a rusted hulk over the last few decades will be up for auction at RM in Monterey in two weeks. This car took 1st in class at Pebble Beach last year and certainly presents well. (Photo copyright RM Auctions.) Link to the auction listing in the comments.

Auction Alert. A Hispano H6B "starter kit" is now up for auction. This is believed to be chassis 10805, from 1924. The engine is 300858, of which the number is still visible on the crankcase, and left the factory in 1924 in chassis 10805 and was sold to Buenos Aires, Argentina. Nothing further is known at this point, perhaps more into will turn up. In any event, quite a bit is missing but it is a Hispano.... Online auction closes in six days. During the first World War, Hispano-Suiza and other companies working under a license from Hispano built a vast number of the V-8 aircraft engine of 18.5-Liters. After that war, these engine were available cheap second hand. (50,000 engines were built in American, not one of which was ever used in actual combat.) Some of these engines were used in race boats, others in race cars. Only a few such cars survive. But this situation reminds me of something the former announcer at the Pebble Beach Concours Paul Woudenberg once said during the awards ceremony. One car came across the ramp and after it was given its award, as it was driving away Paul added "There were only three of those cars ever built and of those three, only seven survive." And such is true with these "specials" with Hispano V-8s. There are at least 10 known right now and more than half have been created since 1960 and one more has just come to light. This car was seen at a show in Southern California and was built using an original 1917 Panhard chassis and rebuilt Hispano aero engine. Nice looking car though, must be quite a handful to drive though. I have driven one and it was easy to light up the rear tires by mistake. There is a video of this car with what I suspect is a made-up history that I will post in the comments. (Photos found on the Internet.)

Another Hispano has been reborn. For those not "up" on their Hispanos, the Skoda company produced 100 model H6B chassis under license which were only slightly different from the French built ones. Now the first of these has been recreated using some original parts. The black & white photo is of the original car in the era, the two color images (stolen from another page here on FB) are of the recreation.

The J12 (chassis 14019) that was damaged so badly last August in a fire is now up for auction. Link to the Auction in the comments. Cars in worse shape have been restored, this one will be as well.

Further on the Hispano J12 damaged last week, further photos have turned up. In the photo showing the car afterwards, the rocker arm cover is visible and looks OK, (considering.) Also the spare tire is not burned up. So I think the engine likely is mostly there, which given how much aluminum is in that engine, means the fire department showed up pretty quickly. So this car is very likely to be restored.
