Our “Then and Now: Central Oak Park” walking tour explores the historic area bordered by Lake Street, East Avenue, North Boulevard and Oak Park Avenue. This tour starts at 10 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 9, at the Oak Park Main Fire Station, 100 N. Euclid Ave.

You'll hear the fascinating stories behind familiar landmarks like the the two large anchor buildings at the intersection of Lake Street and Oak Park Avenue built by the Scoville family and the high school stadium. You’ll also learn about some of Oak Park’s long-lost buildings including a central heating plant that served over 600 homes, a military academy operated by nuns and a much-loved hot dog stand.

Purchase your tickets now in our online store at oprfmuseum.org ($10 or $8 for members) or by calling 708-848-6755.

The first of two opportunities this summer to go on our popular “Growing With the Gundersons” guided walking tour is this Saturday, May 9.

Hear the story of how the Gunderson Brothers developed and promoted this Oak Park neighborhood. You'll also hear many lesser-known stories, such as a resident who was a famous Cub, the location of the world's most prolific ceramic portrait studio, and how the neighborhood got the name "Fertile Acres."

Get your tickets now at oprfmuseum.org or by calling 708-848-6755. We have a full lineup of walking tours this summer. Read about each one under the events tab on our website.
