🏫 The Way We Were: Fourth Grade Memories ❤️🖤

We're excited to introduce our new weekly series, "The Way We Were," and we're kicking things off with a look back at some special fourth-grade memories.

Whether you attended Oak View Elementary, Central Elementary, or Oak Hill Elementary, chances are you remember fourth grade with Mrs. Johanna Crabtree or Mrs. Mamie Lloyd!

From studying Ohio and Great Britain to creating special booklets, visiting Serpent Mound, and celebrating traditions with Welsh fried cakes and bagpipes, these teachers made fourth grade an experience their students would never forget.

For generations of Oak Hill students, these classrooms were filled with learning, laughter, and memories that have lasted a lifetime.

❤️ The schools may have changed, but the memories live on!

Each week, we'll take a trip down memory lane with old photographs, school history, familiar faces, memorable events, and beloved traditions. Through this series, we'll celebrate the people, places, and special moments that helped shape the history of Oak Hill Union Local Schools.

- Assisting with exhibition preparations
- Organizing archives and records
- Working on artefacts, cataloging, digitization

Beginning this Thursday on October 8th, the Welsh-American Heritage Museum and the Madog Center for Welsh Studies/Canolfan Madog ar gyfer Astudiaethau Cymreig will be excited to provide a repeat of our popular 7-week Introduction to Welsh Culture and History: Part II series.

The series of lectures on different topics including language, geography, politics, cultural aspects and more, will be delivered by Gruff Madoc-Jones, Davis Intern at the Madog Center for Welsh Studies at the University of Rio Grande / Rio Grande Community College.

The lectures will be delivered on Zoom and will be recorded and available for paying participants for 14 days after the day of the lecture.

On Sunday, October 18th, acclaimed Welsh poet, novelist, and lecturer Mari Ellis Dunning will discuss her debut novel, Witsh, a Gothic work of historical fiction set in 1597 Wales. Exploring themes of superstition, community, and the lives of women accused of witchcraft, Witsh brings a lesser-known aspect of Welsh history vividly to life.

Presented as part of the Welsh Voices series, this event provides an opportunity to hear directly from one of Wales' leading contemporary literary voices and learn more about the historical inspiration behind her work.
