Ever wonder where SCMA’s artwork goes when it is not on view? While much of our collection is housed here at the museum, certain pieces travel to prestigious venues around the world, such as the Venice Biennale.

SCMA is delighted to celebrate Carrie Schneider, whose work was invited to the 61st International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia by Koyo Kouoh. Her chromogenic monoprint, "Future Shock" (2021), has traveled from SCMA to Venice to be featured in the exhibition In Minor Keys, on view through November 22, 2026.

"Don't mind if I do" is up for just one more month! Be sure to catch it before it leaves and explore all areas of the exhibition. With artistic intentionality at every turn, there are zines, audios, chairs, and more to visit. At the conveyor belt, choose a chair, relax, and flip the script by letting the art come to you.

Delve into the unique history of two remarkable Smith College alumnae, sisters Caroline and Adeline Wing, who donated a series of influential works to the SCMA collection. Kennedy Fellow Meredith Clowse ’26 highlights the Wing sisters’ impact on women’s higher education, emphasizing their philanthropy and career support. Exploring their global travels, Meredith finds connections between their art collecting and their trips across Europe, including an encounter with a likely-forged “Bonnard” in Rome.

While Smith alums reunite with the college, a pair of siblings reunite as well. John Wilson’s painting "My Brother" has returned from The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, where it was shown in "Witnessing Humanity: The Art of John Wilson." Now, you can see it on SCMA’s Third Floor, reunited with "My Sister, Eleanor" a powerful moment that invites you to reflect on Wilson’s lifelong dedication to social justice, human dignity, and the Black experience.

With the academic year behind us, we’re looking back at the moments that made this year at SCMA so memorable.

While one video cannot capture it all, here is a glimpse at our recent exhibitions: "Michel Kameni: Portraits of an Independent Africa," the student-curated "A City in Flux: Reflecting on Venice," and our current exhibition, "Don’t mind if I do."

We're celebrating:
- Our Smith College Seniors: A huge congratulations to our eight graduating student workers. (Not shown: Ninfa & Kaur)
Special Guests: Shoutout to Finnegan Shannon for being this year's Miller Lecturer in Art.

- Learning in Action: 224 classes visited the museum this year, including shared here: the J-term course "Studies in Museums: Nazi-era Provenance Research."

- Community Moments: The Campus School of Smith College 6th grade Pop-up show for Smith Art’s Day, Japanese Print Study Day, and the Smithereens performing at "Desire After Hours."

We even caught Visitor Services Coordinator David Andrews's art matching student worker Joan’s pants!

To the alumnae returning for Reunion and the Class of 2026: Congratulations! Remember, graduation isn’t goodbye. This will always be your museum!

Video Description: A short video with upbeat music showing various exhibitions, events, senior student workers, and people interacting with the museum.

Thanks to all who captured these moments with us, including Steph Craig, Samm Smith, Derek Fowles, and so many others.
