Who Perished in Service to Their Country on
October 12, 2000

The USS Cole is a guided missile destroyer in the US Navy, commissioned on June 8, 1996, and homeported at Naval Station Norfolk, Virginia.

On October 12, 2000, while making a scheduled refueling stop in the port of Aden, Yemen, two su***de bombers in a small craft laden with explosives pulled alongside the port side of the ship and detonated the charge, blowing a 40 foot wide hole near the galley.

17 U.S. sailors were killed who left 11 children behind, and 39 others were wounded. The attack was planned and executed by the terrorist group al-Qaeda.

We remember the service and sacrifice of our brave Navy servicemen and vow to never forget them.

We remember. We will never forget!

Twenty five years ago today, America was changed forever. As the Twin Towers fell, our nation rose—neighbors helping neighbors, first responders running toward danger, and communities standing united in grief and resolve.

Today, the City of North Little Rock honors the lives lost on September 11th, 2001, the families forever changed, and the courage that carried us forward. We remember. We reflect. We stand together.
