Weingarten rights 101:
If you’re meeting with a management representative — your supervisor, the head of your department, or a member of Human Resources, for example — and you have reason to believe that it might result in disciplinary actions against you, you have the right to have a union steward present during the meeting!
You do not need to request union representation before the meeting begin, and you can stop the meeting at any time to request representation.
If this happens, read the below statement to the management representative, and contact your steward (at MASS MoCA, our stewards are Joey, Sean, Ayla, and Chelsea):
“If this discussion could in any way lead to my being disciplined or terminated, or affect my personal working conditions, I request that my union representative, officer or steward be present at the meeting. Without representation, I choose not to answer any questions. This is my right under a U.S. Supreme Court decision called Weingarten.”
