This year, the Nisswa Area Historical Society is creating a display about the history of one of our local businesses- Bar Harbor Supper Club. The project is meaningful for some members with personal ties to both its current site “Little Bar Harbor” and the original site across the street (77) where the “Big Bar Harbor” was before it burnt down in 1968. The original location is where the Bar Harbor Town Homes are now. Some local “old-timers” may still recall the original Bar Harbor or remember hearing about it from their parents or grandparents, with stories of big band performances, cocktails in the Elbow Room, and ski shows--stories passed down through generations. The “Big Bar Harbor” burned down in 1968, and after that, the “Little Bar Harbor” expanded and became the main restaurant.

It has gone through a few renovations since the 70s. We were able to locate and identify quite a few wonderful photos of both restaurants. If anyone has photos or stories about the “Big Bar Harbor” from the 40s, 50s, 60s, or the “Little Bar Harbor” from the 70s on please message our page. We would love to know about these things for our new display. Please come out and see what we have been up to.
